Rainbow toddler activities
When you pair these activities with a good book about rainbows, you’ll extend the fun (and the learning) in a way that will engage and entertain your little ones.
In addition to some hands-on activities for your toddlers, I’m sharing a few book recommendations you can pair each one.
Rainbow Flower Scavenger Hunt
Take your toddler on a walk around the neighborhood or your local farmer’s market to look at flowers. Can they find a flower to match every color of the rainbow?
You could even purchase some flowers and have your child use the petals and leaves to make a rainbow flower collage.
Planting a Rainbow is a great story to pair with this activity.
Eat a Rainbow
Nope. I’m not talking about Skittles. After reading I Can Eat a Rainbow to your toddler, talk about the foods from each color group.
Create a fun fruit and veggie tray with a variety of foods from each page, and encourage your toddlers to try something new (or eat a favorite food) from each color group.
Try red raspberries, orange slices, yellow bananas, green peas, blueberries, and purple grapes. Just be sure that everything is cut and prepared so that they’re small enough and soft enough to not be a choking hazard.
Indoor Color Scavenger Hunt
Cut squares of colored construction paper in each color of the rainbow. Help your toddler find objects around the room that match each construction paper square.
Can they find one toy or one sock or one crayon to match each color? If so, can they find two things for each color?
Little Owl’s Colors is the perfect book to pair with this activity.
