Here’s a fun and easy Rainbow Fish celery painting craft for kids. It’s the perfect companion to the book, The Rainbow Fish. Kids will love this one!
Kids of all ages will love using fresh celery stalks as their “paintbrush” for this fun book-based craft. With supplies you’ve likely already got in your craft stash, your kids can whip up this adorable craft in no time.
Rainbow Fish Celery Painting
I love the story of The Rainbow Fish who is proud of his beautiful, shiny scales. Kids will love watching Rainbow Fish learn to make friends by sharing his most prized possession.
After a quick read through the book, kids can make a Rainbow Fish of their own.
What You’ll Need
paint (light blue, silver, royal blue, purple, emerald green, fuchsia, and yellow)
What You’ll Do
Draw the fish body shape on a heavy-duty paper plate (about 9” long by 7” tall) and cut it out.
Use a pencil to draw the fish’s face area and paint it light blue. Let dry.
Cut celery stalks into five 4-5” lengths to be used as stamps.
Starting with the silver paint, using the celery stamp to make several silver “fish scales” on the fish body area. While the paint is still wet, pour silver glitter over the silver stamped “fish scales” and then tap off excess glitter. Let dry.
Using a new piece of celery for each color, stamp royal blue, purple, emerald green, fuchsia “fish scales” all over the fish randomly until the fish body is covered to your liking. Let dry.
Print and cut out the Fins & Tail Template on white cardstock. Trace the cut-out cardstock fins and tail on blue construction paper and cut them out. Position the paper fins and tail under the fish body and glue them to the backside.
Glue on the googly eye.
Draw the fish lip outlines with a pencil.
Paint fish lips yellow. Let dry. If desired, use a pencil to outline the fish’s lips for extra detail.
