Pete the Cat Space Slime
When Pete heads off to space camp, he gets to float in zero gravity, build rockets, and even goes on an extraordinary interstellar mission that is out of this world—literally. Houston, ready to rock out with Pete the Cat!
The book-based activities below will help you extend the text in a meaningful way, and keep your students engaged after the story is over.
What You’ll Need
- Pete the Cat: Out of This World
- Space toys
- star confetti (optional)
- 4 oz. of Elmer’s school glue
- ½ tbsp. baking soda
- ¼ tbsp. contact lens solution
- Mixing bowl
- Mixing spoon
- Plastic craft mat
What You’ll Do
Read and discuss the story. Create space slime following the directions below.
Pour the entire bottle of glue into a mixing bowl.

Add the baking soda and stir.

Add the contact lens solution, and stir it until the slime begins to form.

Knead the slime wiht your hands until you get the desired slime consistency.
If the slime is too sticky, add ¼ tbsp of contact lens solution at a time until it’s no longer sticky.
Form a ball with the slime. Place it on a plastic mat for playtime with the space toys.

Add the star confetti, if desired. Kids can use small space toys to play with the slime.

Space Themed Fine Motor Fun
After reading through the story of Pete the Cat: Out of This World, talk to your students about the outer space things Pete encounters in the book.
Build your child’s vocabulary with words like astronaut, rocket, planet, sun, Earth, and more. Then, print out a set of space-themed pom pom challenge mats.
They’ll strengthen fine motor skills as they use small colored pom poms to build a variety of space-themed objects like a rocket, a UFO, an alien, and more.
