Another month has come to an end, and another one is just beginning. This list of books and correlating activities is full of ideas for all of the fun and unusual holidays that you and your kids can celebrate this month.
November Read Aloud Calendar
November is full of fun, off-the-wall holidays in addition to the known holidays we celebrate every year. This book list {and printable calendar} is a great way to celebrate autumn all month long!
November is…
•Aviation History Month – Take time this month to read about Amelia Earhart and/or the Wright brothers.
• Peanut Butter Lovers Month – Take time this month to learn more about George Washington Carver. Maybe you will want to make some homemade peanut butter.
November also has many obscure holidays you can celebrate in your homeschool or classroom. Take a look at the suggestions below:
November 1 – Dia de Los Muertos {Day of the Dead}
Read Day of the Dead coloring sheet. Then, your students can color a Day of the Dead coloring sheet.
November 2 – Look for Circles Day
Read So Many Circles, So Many Squares. Then, make some Overlapping Printed Circles art.
November 3 – Sandwich Day
Read The Giant Jam Sandwich. Eat a jam sandwich for lunch.
November 4 – King Tut Day
Read Tut’s Mummy: Lost… and Found. You might also want to check out this Ancient Egypt book list for more suggestions. Afterward, have your kids draw a picture of King Tut.
November 6 – Saxophone Day
Read Charlie Parker Played Be Bop. Here’s a picture of a saxophone for kids to color.
November 7 – Election Day
Read Duck for President. Enjoy this free Duck for President Activity Pack.
November 10 – Sesame Street Day
Read The Monster at the End of the Book. Kids will love creating their own scribble monsters.
November 11 – Veteran’s Day
Read The Poppy Lady. This torn paper poppy craft is simple for kids to make.
November 13 – World Kindness Day
Read The Jelly Donut Difference: Sharing Kindness with the World. Print out some free Random Acts of Kindness cards.
November 14 – Young Reader’s Day
Read Book. Let kids make their own paper bag books.
November 16 – Button Day
Read Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. Kids can practice counting to ten with these button counting cards.
November 17 – Take a Hike Day
Read Sheep Take a Hike. Take a hike with the kids today.
November 18 – Mickey Mouse Day
Read Mickey & Friends: Mickey’s Thanksgiving. Little ones will enjoy this free Mickey Mouse Printable Pack.
November 19 – Have a Bad Day Day
Read Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Students will write about their own bad day with this activity.
November 21 – World Hello Day
Read Hello, World. Practice saying “hello” in different languages.
November 23 – Thanksgiving
Read Cranberry Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holiday with friends and family!
