Fill your shelves with a great collection of Halloween children’s books. These picture books are perfect for holiday reading.

I love adding holiday books to my daily lessons. I like to have a variety of picture books, easy readers, and chapter books on hand to meet the needs of everyone in the room.

These picture books are perfect for kids to read independently, and they’re engaging enough to be used as read-alouds as Halloween approaches.

Halloween Children’s Books

Below, I’ve featured just a handful of Halloween picture books that will help your students celebrate Halloween.

You should be able to find them at your local library or bookstore. If you can’t find them locally, you can click each image cover to purchase them on Amazon.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown – It’s Halloween night, which means costumes, trick-or-treating, bobbing for apples…and waiting for the Great Pumpkin. Linus is certain that the Great Pumpkin will rise out of the pumpkin patch to bring toys to all the children of the world. Could this be the year that it finally happens?

Room on the Broom – The witch and her cat are happily flying through the sky on a broomstick when the wind picks up and blows away the witch’s hat, then her bow, and then her wand!  Luckily, three helpful animals find the missing items, and all they want in return is a ride on the broom.

Pumpkin Jack – The first pumpkin Tim ever carved was fierce and funny, and he named it Jack. When Halloween was over and the pumpkin was beginning to rot, Tim set it out in the garden and throughout the weeks he watched it change.

That is if he can settle on a costume!

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything – Once upon a time, there was a little old lady who was not afraid of anything! But one autumn night, while walking in the woods, the little old lady heard . . . clomp, clomp, shake, shake, clap, clap.

Snowmen at Halloween – After an early snowfall, a few kids build some snowmen before going trick-or-treating. And when the kids go off to bed, the snowmen have their own Halloween festival! There’s candy and apple-bobbing and costume contests and all sorts of autumn activities. When the kids wake up the next morning, the snowmen are gone… but they’ve left a very special message behind.
