Some kids love to get a little spooky in October as Halloween approaches. They can do that with this great collection of Halloween chapter books.
My daughter likes to ready spooky – not scary – stories throughout the month. She doesn’t want to be scared, but she does like the ‘darker’ stories or stories about spooky things.
Here’s a list of some of the spooky Halloween chapter books I put on her reading shelf for October.

Halloween Chapter Books
Fill your book basket with a great collection of Halloween chapter books. Most of these books can be found at your local library or used bookstore.

Emma and I love this movie, and we love the soundtrack that goes with it. I had no idea that it was first a book. We listened to this in the car on our way to and from dance and co-op. It’s a weird story, but we really enjoyed listening to it.
I’ve been reading this book to my students for years. I started out reading it to my third and fourth graders as a public school teacher. Since then, I assigned it to each of my own kids in my homeschool years.
While I’ve never read this particular book, we do love Roald Dahl. I’m anxious to see if this book is as fantastic as the others we’ve read from him.
We haven’t watched the movies yet, but we’ve been working our way through this series. It’s very interesting, and I can’t wait to see how it ends.
My boys devoured these books! I’m going to read the first one aloud to Em in hopes that it will spark a desire in her to read the rest of the series. She has seen all of the movies, and I really think she’ll enjoy the series. I have never read the books myself, and my 16yo is hounding me to get started. So, I’m going to take Em along with me on this journey.
I’ve never read any of the books in this series, but it has great reviews. I’m going to grab one to put on Emma’s reading shelf for this month to see what she thinks.
