These gingerbread books for preschool feature some of my favorite holiday picture books for children. Find a favorite classic story or discover a brand new one!

When December rolls around, many of us teach a gingerbread theme as many families begin making gingerbread houses and gingerbread cookies as part of our holiday activities.

These books are great for reading during a full fairytale theme, as well.

Gingerbread Books for Preschoolers

Below, I’ve featured just a handful of picture books that your preschoolers are sure to love!

You should be able to find them at your local library or bookstore. If you can’t find them locally, you can click each image cover to purchase them on Amazon.

How to Catch a Gingerbread Man

Do you have what it takes to catch the Gingerbread Man? The famous storybook character has magically come to life and leapt from the pages during story time!

Follow along as the Gingerbread Man runs loose in a bookstore with the help of Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Peter Rabbit, nursery rhyme characters, and more!

If you set the right traps, you might...just might be able to catch this wily cookie and finish the fairy tale!

Richard Scarry's The Gingerbread Man

“Run, run, as fast as you can!” Catch Richard Scarry’s gingerbread man as he tears through this beloved Little Golden Book, originally published in 1953 and every bit as enchanting today.

The Gingerbread Man

Children enjoy chiming in with Aylesworth's charming, rollicking refrains, accompanied by whimsical animal images and a delicious recipe for gingerbread men.

The Gingerbread Man (Keepsake Stories)

Featuring 32 pages of fresh, captivating illustrations, this 8" x 8" story book tells the story of the Gingerbread Man as he escapes from the oven and has to outrun all the creatures that try to catch him!

Catch That Cookie!

Marshall knows one thing for sure, despite what all the stories say: Gingerbread men cannot run. Cookies are for eating, and he can't wait to eat his after spending all morning baking them with his class.

But when it's time to take the gingerbread men out of the oven . . . they're gone! Now, to find those rogue cookies...

The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School

When a class leaves for recess, their just-baked Gingerbread Man is left behind. But he's a smart cookie and heads out to find them.

He'll run, slide, skip, and (after a mishap with a soccer ball) limp as fast as he can because: "I can catch them! I'm their Gingerbread Man!"

The Gingerbread House

Every Christmas season, gingerbread men come alive. The only way to keep them around until Christmas, is a treasured, tasty secret.

And if it’s done right, something special is left behind...

Gingerbread Mouse

On a snowy winter's night, Mouse is snug in her bed. Then…crack! A tree branch falls and destroys her house! It’s up to Mouse to find a new place to live in time for her to enjoy the season.

With determination, resourcefulness, and a good amount of Christmas wonder, Mouse finds not only another house but also a place she can truly call home.

The Gingerbread Girl

The lonely old woman and the lonely old man decide to bake a girl this time, but when they open the oven, she runs off like her brother did.

Never fear, this smart cookie has a plan to outfox the fox. Will it work? Let's just say that the ending is sweet for everyone.

Gingerbread Baby

It all begins when Matti opens the oven too soon and out jumps a cheeky little Gingerbread Bay.

He leads Matti's mother and father, the dog and the cat, and a whole colorful cast of characters on a rollicking chase through the village and into the forest, staying just out of reach, daring them to catch him along the way.
