Great books and activities to celebrate all month long! This February read aloud book and activity calendar is perfect for preschool and elementary classrooms.
I can’t believe another month has come and gone. I’m back with another fun list of books and corresponding activities that is full of ideas for you and your students.
There are enough activities on this list to keep you and your kiddos entertained all month long!
February Read Aloud Calendar
February is full of fun and quirky holidays in addition to the national holidays we celebrate each year – Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, etc. This book list {and printable read-aloud calendar} is a great resource to have on hand throughout the month.

February is…
• Black History Month – Take time this month to learn about some of the most influential African Americans in our country’s history.
• National Children’s Dental Health Month – Take time this month to learn about teeth, dentists, and dental hygiene.
February also has many holidays you can celebrate in your homeschool or classroom. Take a look at the books and activities featured below:
February 2 – Groundhog Day
Read Grumpy Groundhog. Then, have your young students create a fun groundhog puppet.
February 2 – Super Bowl Sunday
Read The Greatest Game Ever Played. Let your kids help you whip up some Super Bowl treats.
February 3 – Feed the Birds Day
Read Fine Feathered Friends. Then, work on a backyard birds unit study or make bird feeders to hang on a nearby tree.
February 8 – Kite Flying Day
Read Biscuit Flies a Kite. Then, your students may enjoy making kites of their own to fly on a windy day.
February 9 – National Pizza Day
Read Pizza Day. Have students graph their favorite pizza toppings. Or, try making a pizza from scratch.
February 10 – Umbrella Day
Read Umbrella. Try this fun umbrella craft with your kiddos.
February 11 – Make a Friend Day
Read one of the books featured on this list of books about friendship. Teach kids how to make friendship bracelets with this tutorial.
February 12 – Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday
Read Young Abe Lincoln. Then, let your students make a fun Lincoln mask to celebrate.
February 14 – Valentine’s Day
Read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose! Then, head over to Homeschool Preschool (my other blog) where you’ll find an amazing assortment of Valentine’s Day treats, crafts, sensory play activities, worksheets, and so much more!
February 17 – Random Acts of Kindness Day
Read The Kindness Quilt. As a group (family, classroom, etc), create a Kindness Jar to encourage kindness and empathy.
February 17 – President’s Day
Read If I Were President. Present kids with this President’s Day unit study which includes copywork, acrostics, Bingo, and more.
February 20 – Love Your Pet Day
Read The Perfect Pet. Graph the kids’ pets. Or, graph the pets they want. What makes a good pet and why? What doesn’t make a good pet and why? Lots of fun discussion topics for today.
February 22 – George Washington’s Birthday
Read A Picture Book of George Washington. I love this George Washington paper bag craft. Older kids can write facts about our first president on the back of the paper bag.
February 23 – Tennis Day
Read Murphy Bear’s Tennis Lesson. Add a little gross motor play to your day with some indoor balloon tennis!
February 25 – Mardi Gras
Read Dinosaur Mardi Gras. When you’re done reading the story, give kids this free printable template so they can make their own Mardi Gras masks.
February 26 – Carnival Day
Read The Carnival of the Animals. Let your students choose their favorite animal and turn to Pinterest for a plethora of animal craft ideas!
February 27 – Polar Bear Day
Read If I Knew a Polar Bear. When you’re done reading this story, let your kids create their own paper plate polar bears to display around your classroom.
February 28 – National Tooth Fairy Day
Read The Night Before the Tooth Fairy. Pick one or more of these fun tooth fairy ideas to do with your kids today.
February 29 – Leap Day
Read It’s My Birthday Finally! Pick one or more of these fun Leap Year activities to do with your kids today.
For the rest of this month, I suggest the following books which focus on Valentine’s Day and Dental Health Month. They’ll be a great addition to your February read aloud schedule!
